Building services used many types of data cables. The main aim of these data cables is to make sure that the data is transmitted at incredibly fast speeds. The cables that are used in buildings must be handled with care and perfection. It will ensure that the installation is done perfectly and no error occurs. The dilemma of today is that there are many companies working in the field which provide services but not all are same. It also means that the company chosen to perform the task must be equipped with the knowledge. When it comes to data packet types there is a clear classification.

The capacity as well as traveling speed of all types of data slows when the signal runs on copper-based medium. Tremendously fast speeds can be achieved if fiber optic cables are installed. Most of the industries and offices which are built despite this fact always go for copper cables. The only reason behind this is the cost which becomes double if fiber optic installation is done.

There are some external factors are well which can reduce the data transfer rate. These factors are independent of the type of cable used. First of all is the fact that the cable is twisted. The data packets find it difficult to travel through the twisted region thereby increasing line losses. The second factor is that of joints. They work in the same way as twists do and therefore the data transfer rates are reduced. Substandard and misconfigured systems can also lead to issues which ultimately become a dilemma.  For cost reduction and overall efficiency achievement, it is advised to make sure that the all these factors are removed before proceeding with proper data transfer working.

Some of the main data cables used by data cabling services companies are as follows:

  • Twisted which is made up of copper
  • Fiber optic as the name depicts is made up of fiber
  • Coax, also known as coaxial cable is made up of copper

The twisted cables are further categorized into UTP and STP. The only difference is that a silver coating is present in STP and absent in UTP. The STP cables are used by most of the organization. They are higher in price as compared to UTP but still much cheaper as compared to fiber optic cables. Data transfer rate of up to 100 kHz can be obtained if this cable is used. A combination of UTP and STP for voice and data combined is also becoming common nowadays.

Fiber optic needs no intro. It is by far the best cable that has been developed. The data can transfer at the speed of light. It is therefore obvious that the transfer rates cannot be calculated at all. It is used by the very large corporation where data transfer speed matters. Copper based cables have several disadvantages which can easily be overcome when fiber optic is used.

Coax of Coaxial cable was once the top market cable but now it’s not the case. It is now mainly used for cable TV network. The usage of this cable in computer communications is close to zilch.
